The Demise of Blankie. :(

Kaeden has slept with the same blanket since he was a baby. He has never been able to sleep without it. Last week Kaed was careless with his silly putty and it got all squished in to the soft side of Blankie. He was very upset when I told him that it wouldn't wash out, it was stuck there. I didn't really think he would care as much as he did. I assumed he'd just continue to sleep with it, green silly putty and all. I was wrong. Kaeden says Blankie is ruined now and he can't sleep with him anymore. And that was that. There were no tears involved. He was very matter-of-fact about it. No more Blankie. No more searching all over the house for Blankie before bedtime. He doesn't need it anymore.

I asked him today if I could take a picture of him with Blankie to put on the blog. This is the sad face he made.





I admit I had been giving a lot of thought lately as to when he would give it up. Would I have to take it away eventually like with the pacifier? Would he naturally just outgrow the need for it? Would I just let him keep sleeping with it for as long as he wanted? All this thought and then a little silly putty did the trick. I must admit its bittersweet. That was the one little piece of 'baby' still left in my big boy.
