We Have Butterflies.

Shortly after my last post about the caterpillars they made their way to the top of the container and began hanging upside down. When they harden and form a cocoon they are called chrysalids. Once they are all chrysalids its time to move them. We used a safety pin to attach the lid of the containter (where they were hanging) to the side of the butterfly habitat. He is what they looked like when that happened.

They stayed this way for about a week. Yesterday morning I checked on them... still the same. Then when we got home from the bus stop in the afternoon I check again and we had TWO butterflies. Today there is one more. There are still two cocoons left.

Here you can see the two cocoons that are empty and the two butterflies. They are more colorful today than they were yesterday. I had to take the picture through the netting.

We bought some flowers to put inside and made up a batch of sugar water to put water droplets on the flowers. The butterflies love it.

Once all the butterflies are out we can keep them for a couple of days and then we'll let them go. Its been really fun to watch this whole process!
