We took our annual Kentucky trip at the end of June this year. Instead of leaving at 6pm like we did last year and having to stay up for more than 24 hours and drive completely through the night, we tried something a little different. We had the car all packed and ready, went to bed at a decent hour and then woke up at like 3am, loaded up the kids, and hit the road. Even though the kids didn't fall right back asleep, they did eventually so we had until breakfast time with them asleep. After that we just stopped a few times for food and potty breaks, J napped again around noon and we were there shortly after he woke up. It worked out pretty well so we did the same thing for the drive home. Definitely better than staying up all night and much more doable now that Jarett is older.
We had a great time again this year, of course. It's always fun to see everyone. With the exception of a couple of special events, most of my pictures were taken on my phone. I was battling first trimester fatigue, nausea, and overall yuckiness during the trip this year and unfortunately just didn't get my camera out much.
Most of our time was spent just hanging out at the house or the pool or visiting family. Kaeden loved the big pool they had in their neighborhood and thought the diving board was awesome. He's finally swimming really well this summer so I ok'd him jumping off the board in to the deep end. He did great!
We went bowling one afternoon. I wasn't sure how I'd do since I haven't bowled in forever. I still suck. Pretty sure Kaeden beat me. I shoulda played with the bumpers.
After bowling we meet a bunch of family at this seafood restaurant on the river.
Jennifer and I took the kids to this new splash park one day just to kill some time and expel some energy. Took Jarett a little while to get used to but once he did he loved it. Best part was, it was free! I so wish we had something like this near by to do in the Florida heat!
One day we went downtown to visit a museum. They have several neat on in Louisville. I thought it would be neat to visit the Slugger Museum. You get to see how bats are made and the kids get a free one to take home at the end of the tour. The kids wanted to go the Samurai museum though so that's what we did. It was pretty neat, the kids really enjoyed it.
And this pretty much sums up how we felt by the time we came home.
We hope we'll be able to go back next summer. We'll have to see when the time comes though since the baby will only be like 4 months old.
