Celebrations started last weekend. We enjoyed a nice long Memorial Day weekend break. We all went to Leighton's party on Saturday and then had Jarett's party on Sunday. Ours was a small get together. Our parents all came, along with my brother and Jackson, my Aunt Sharon, and of course Leighton came with her Mommy and Daddy. :) It was a great little party. We grilled burgers and then had cake.
Here's my little one year old playing as his party started. His party was an owl theme and Jess made him this adorable little shirt to wear.

I made cupcakes for the guests and Jarett had a owl cake to smash.

He started walking about 3 weeks ago and has gotten pretty darn good at it now. He literally tries to RUN. sheesh. I'm gonna be in trouble.

When it came time for cake he was all about it. It only took him a second to stick a finger in the icing and test it out. Shortly after he was going for the handful.

We all really enjoyed watching him be so in to it. I love this shot of his Daddy looking on with such adoration. They have such a sweet connection and love each other so much. It's such a joy to see.

Same goes for Jarett and Kaeden. Such brotherly love going on there. Although Kaeden is annoyed by his drool and toy stealing, he loves him so much and is very protective of him. Jarett just loves his big brother too. He's his best buddy, always there to make him laugh and play with him when nothing else will make him happy.

Grandaddy wanted to get a closer look at the mess he was making.

About this time Jarett got smart and decided to eliminate a step. I'm sure he was thinking 'why am I wasting all this time shoveling it in with my hands when I can just shove my face right in the cake'??? HAHA.

I finally had to cut him off. He ate a LOT of cake and I didn't want him making himself sick with all that sugar!

After cake we opening presents. Jarett got some great things that he's really enjoying and playing with a lot. We really appreciate all the thoughtful gifts. And thanks to Chris for taking pictures for me since I was helping open the presents.

Leighton. :)

I think this shot is hilarious. Jeremy working really hard to get a toy opened, Jarett crying with impatience, and Grandmother laughing in amusement of it all.

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect party for such a perfect baby!
It's hard to believe that it has already been a whole year since we welcomed our sweet Jarett in to the world. Time passes even quicker with each child I think. I suppose because there's so much more going on in the family. As quickly as it passes though I remember each stage and cherish the days I've spent watching him grow and learn so rapidly. Childbirth is certainly a miraculous thing but I think the first year of life runs a close second. It's truly amazing to see how much he learns from day to day and how much he grows so quickly. I am so blessed to be able to spend so much time at home with him.
Here are his milestones at 1 year. He weighs about 23 lbs but we'll know his exact stats at his well baby visit next week. He goes to bed between 7 and 7:30 and sleeps all night long until roughly 7:00am give or take depending on if alarms are going off or not. He still sleeps in our room but we plan on moving him to his own room now that he's a year old. He takes his naps in his crib twice a day most of the time, usually at around 9am and 2pm for about an hour and a half at a time. He still loves his special blanket and his paci when he goes to sleep. I try to limit them otherwise.
He loves to play with his toys. He likes to open and close doors, look underneath things, listen to songs and dance. He likes looking at picture books with me and pointing at the pictures. His favorite thing right now is finding things he can push around, whether it's a toy or not. He loves throwing balls and chasing them around. He starting walking several steps at a time a week after he turned 11 months old. Since then he's gotten better and better and now he walks almost all the time.
He's on whole milk now completely. He gets a sippy of milk 3 times a day with juice and water in between. For breakfast he loves to eat waffles and cinnamon toast and he loves cinnamon rolls now. For lunch his favorite is a ham sandwich. He also likes bologna and turkey but it has to be on bread with mayo, salt, and pepper. For snacks he likes crackers and yogurt. For dinner he'll usually eat some modification of what we eat. He loves BBQ ribs and chicken and garlic bread. He likes sweet potato fries but I can't get him to eat any other fruits or veggies really. He's a carb and snack fiend just like his Mom.
He's talking a LOT. Really just in the last month or so he's really started saying more. He's been saying Mama and Dada for a while. A lot of his words sound the same for different things but he says them with intention while pointing or gesturing for what he wants or is talking about. This is his vocabulary so far:
Mama
Dada
Bubba (sometimes with referring to Kaeden)
Ball
Bye Bye and Hi
Done or All done
Eat (he's started saying mumumum when he's hungry, I think he's trying to say Nom Nom)
Baba for his sippy cup
Out
Uh Oh
I think that's it. He's always making noise and babbling. It's so cute to hear him trying to say new things. Looks like he's gonna be a talker like his Dad. :)
There are so many cute and sweet things he does. He loves to give hugs and kisses and will even cuddle on occasion. I could just go on and on about all the things he does but it would take all day. We all just love him so much and feel so blessed to have him in our lives.
Happy Birthday Baby!
